I’m keeping myself busy here lately, and I feel that these next 3 weeks are going to go by quickly before coming home for Christmas. Well, to start off the weekend right, I went back to my school to join the teacher’s party including wine tasting. It was quite professional and the 8 different dry red wines from a local winery were listed on our menu for the evening. Lori would say I’m a wine-o, but I like to think of myself as a wine connoisseur. I sniffed and swirled, tasted, and as a good connoisseur, took notes. The glasses were rinsed and filled again. Let’s just say it was a good time with my colleagues and can be fun to party with people who have a bit more life experience than myself.
Saturday the sun was shining! It’s been raining quite a bit lately and it was a pleasant change to be squinting as the sun shone on my face. I was in Mainz and before meeting another Fulbrighter at the Gutenberg Museum, I ate my sandwiches in the shadow of the grand cathedral and watched the shoppers also enjoying a sunny afternoon. The museum was very interesting and there was a demonstration of how Gutenberg’s press worked. I was most interested in seeing one of the original Gutenberg Bibles, and the museum owned 1 and half copies. They were in latin, and amazing to see how well-preserved they were. After an afternoon in the museum and a Kiba in a local bar, I came back to Ruesselsheim for my first outing in the one and only club in town. The party began at Rachel’s and around 11, we thought it was time to make our appearance. It was 80s night and it felt like the entire 20 and 30 somethings in town were there. The classics were playing and it was a nice atmosphere really. I must say I had my doubts, but I was kinda impressed. The night ended back at Rachel’s with a slumber party and whispers and giggles before drifting off to sleep. Today I’ve just been relaxing and reflecting on what’s in store during this Christmas season.
